Joyousness

Joyousness, hand-made postcard, YEJI KIM

Nowadays, despite our life companion mobile and lots of other social network services, I personally find that it is always nice to get more personal. I love sending post cards no matter if I am travelling or just for no reason, leaving little memo to my beloved ones. This hand-made card was for my grandmother, when I sent her “pre-Christmas” package.

Summer In Stockholm

Stockholm, acrylic on canvas, 20x20cm, Feb.2014, YEJI KIM

It was summer in Stockholm in 2013, I was inspired by the energy in the colours and contrast of the seascape. While sitting in a boat and looking at the blue sea, sunlight reflects on the water and blue sky. It was warm but I could feel the fresh air from the wind.

This artwork is available on my website or on Saatchi Art or on Creative Debuts.

Secret Spot

River Main, oil on canvas, 70x50cm, Feb.2014, YEJI KIM

It was a day where we explored for the whole day the nature near Frankfurt, Germany. We went by bicycle packed with picnic lunch and   fishing pole just in case should we find a proper location for fishing. We discovered a spot. Suddenly it felt as if we were totally different world. We were at the river with full of tranquility, surrounded by the forest.

Capture The Moment

Floating, oil on canvas, 60x60cm, May.2015, YEJI KIM

Brilliant in colour, gracefully composed and arranged, broadly and vigorously painted. I like the movement of the floating fishes. It was quite challenging to depict the natural fluent light movement. I really loved the vivid colours of the Koi fishes so I captured the moment.

There Is Always Love And Hope

My mom´s favourite: Freesia, oil on canvas, 20x20cm, Mar.2014, YEJI KIM

This work is centered on the theme of finding peace and beauty, regardless of life´s challenges. It is dedicated to my mother who lost her life companion at the same time an irreplaceable friend and best father of their daughters reminding that there is always love and peace to be found, and hope shines brightest when life is most tumultuous.

Little Surprise

Grandma´s little bird, oil on canvas, 20x20cm, Mar.2015, YEJI KIM

This painting if full of joyfulness. The tones of vivid colours seem to sing together in a warm and welcoming melody. It is dedicated to my lovely grandmother who loves birds. Today, I sent her a little package as a “pre-Christmas” surprise since my mom and sister will not able to spent Christmas at her place. So I prepared little bit of Mozart chocolate and herb tea that she enjoys;  a CD of Schumann “Schwanengesang” and  navy blue winter hut with pompoms  she loves to wear. I hope she likes it!

Excellent Subject To Paint

In the corner, Oil on canvas, 24x17cm, Mar.2014, YEJI KIM

"[The floral still life] is, I think, an excellent subject to paint"
Claude Monet to Frédéric Bazille, 1864

My paintings are captures of delightful moments in my every day life. I enjoy painting landscapes and nature because it is the source of where all these beautiful colours come from. With colours I intend pouring a sense of beauty and emotional appeal into the work.

This art piece is available on my website or on Saatchi Art or on Creative Debuts.

Floral Still Life

Sunday afternoon, oil on canvas, 40x50cm, Oct.2014, YEJI KIM

"The eye must be taught to look at nature,
Jean-Siméon Chardin, lecure to the Aademy, 1765"

Currently I am reading Working Among Flowers: Floral Still-Life Painting in 19th-Century FranceA beautiful book composed of essays that give an insight into the emerging dialogue between the floral still life, botanical illustration, and models of science; the critical context for instruction in and reception of flower painting; the misunderstood relationship between avant-garde flower painting and the market; the cultural meanings of the vases and ceramic vessels depicted by painters; and the literary context for flower painting.

This artwork is available on my website or on Saatchi Art or on Creative Debuts.

Unforgettable Memory

Awakening, acrylic with modelling paste on canvas, 24x17cm, Jan.2014, YEJI KIM

Details, acrylic with modelling paste on canvas, 24x17cm, Jan.2014, YEJI KIM

Joyful, lively and vibrant - “Awakening” is reflecting the connection to my painting tutor. I began the new year in 2014 while painting 3 days in a row with my painting tutor. I started early morning and went home late night. It was not many days but very intense. We had so much fun but we were also full of concentration even it was quiet cold in my tutor´s studio.

This art work is dedicated to her and our unforgettable memory.
